IG you're taking the screenshots way outta context. They're just simplistic little sports games that come free with the console. They aren't going to spend assloads of money on them. They're there only as an introduction to the controller I imagine. They want ppl to buy a game, not play Wii sports all the time.

You guys are all drinking the Nintendo Koolaid!!!!!!!
:smsex: Reports were that Nintendo Wii would come in at 200 $or even 150 $ since the system can't compare power wise with the 360 or the PS3. Then it comes in at 250 bucks! Wait, it comes with a game, cried all the Nintendo fanboys. Yeah, but that game looks to be crap. Notice Zelda aint bundled with the Wii? You want to make the argument that its a free "demo" game well you are forced to buy that demo game. Come in at under 200 bucks with no game, that is a more appealing deal to me. System + Zelda + extra controller = 350+$$. Im sorry Ginger, I just dont buy the graphics don't mean (@*)^&@ argument. Are you still watching TV on a black and white 15 inch TV you bought 20 years ago? Are you regularly playing your original Atari or 8 bit nintendo? When Im playing a boxing game against my friends, I want their face to ripple in slow motion as they go crashing to the ground. I want their eyes to get puffy and bruised as the fight goes along. I want girls to actually leave the room as I exploit an open cut that bleeds down my opponents face. You know why? Its boxing. Its brutal. Fight Night 3 is so close to watching a match its crazy at times. Everyone at the start of this thread was so excited for a StarWars lightsaber game with the Wii's swinging controller action. Can you imagine that with PREMIUM graphics. With a kickass Home Theater System with surround sound thats pretty much a gaming dream come true. The Wii is not gonna be capable of that. I'm sorry, I'm a guy. I like to showoff my system. I like to beat my chest and do the tarzan yell. I like that my friends are impressed when they come over for a game night. If this is the most revolutionary control scheme in the history of planet Earth then hey, I guess Im wrong, but the longevity of the Wii is in serious doubt. The fact that Nintendo is stocking up mass systems to sell this holiday makes me think they want to get a boatload of systems sold right away while the hype is at an all time high, which is a great business move for Nintendo of course, but show me some long term plans and show me a reason I ll still be playing the Wii in 2 to 3 years. Ive bought every Nintendo system EVER. The love affair I had with the 8 bit nintendo will never die, but the last two systems have let me down bigtime. The quantity was just not there and the games were mostly aimed at the kiddie market. Mario Party was pretty fun, but I dont need to play Mario Party 53. If this was any other company I think people would be ripping the poor graphics and high price point but its Nintendo which automatically riles people up. No one has even played this yet but there are already multiple people on this forum proclaiming this system as the messiah of video games. I'm not anti Nintendo, but I'm not afraid to point out some valid questions and concerns. Maybe Im wrong and will be walking around with HUGE biceps from all the crazy Wii action I can't get enough of but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. One things for sure, it's a good time to be a gamer. IG

This is like trying to compare a grapefruit to a orange. The systems are the same basic principle. Entertainment units capable of playing video games and what not. Yes they are different but lets not try and praise one system over another. They have their strong and weak points yes.
The 360 was built with the idea of next generation graphics and sound in mind but took a conserative approach and went with a normal controller. I see no problem with that as it would appeal to the older gamer or a fairly new one. As I see it, Microsoft was trying to avoid the hassle of having to keep your current PC box uptodate to play the latest games. In the longrun, if one thinks about it, you're spending far less for a good and powerful console that was designed to deliver PC type power in an easy to use system for under $500. While a PC gamer would go as far as to spend over $2000 or more to at least get some good but not perfect performance for the next gen games. The Wii on the other hand was built with a broader spectrum in mind. A new way to control games plus the appeal of the older vintage gamers. Sure the graphics may not be top quality, but in the longrun, and priced reasonably, it would be the pefect console for a novice gamer and/or family to use. Nintendo has always taken a conserative approach to their marketing. Build a console that everyone will enjoy and keep it at a lower price than the rest, and they'd make about as much as the 360 would, maybe even more. I intend to get the Wii first, then a 360. Though I could care less for the PS3.

I have to say, the Wii's launch lineup is really disappointing. I don't think I will be buying one right away.

The potential looks incredible.
I haven't had a TV for 10 years, and the wii is making me think about getting one just so I can play it with my kids.. I'm glad they went for something more than FPS and resolution. |

Wii - My thoughts.
Crappy name for starters. I do a wii in the toilet. I don't invite my friends round to play with my wii. I can think of a bazillion other snarky comments for the name alone, but i'll spare you ![]() After seeing the graphics on that "sports" game. Well, that's pretty fuckin sad. Who cares about the new revolutionary controller if the gfx are going to look like that? My Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128k could do better than that. I'm with IG on all of his points. I want to play a game on a console with my mates, and actually enjoy the graphics and gameplay at the same time. When i'm playing Fifa 07 on my friends Xbox, i want to see the injury i cause by a late sliding tackle. Watching the expression on the players face as i slide into the back of his ankles with a double footed tackle, intent on injuring the bastard, knowing i'll get booked for it. Then see him limping around the pitch. I want to see my games in full HD 720p on a 40" LCD screen. I want to listen to my games in full 5.1 Dolby Surround sound. I won't be buying into the Wii revolution. The only nintendo system i bought was a SNES. Loved it to bits. Spent all my waking hours glued to a controller when i was younger. My mates and i sitting there playing Super Mario Kart long into the early mornings every night. Or 3 player multitap action on the Bruce Lee game. Awesome. After that, nintendo died a death with the N64. I'm saving up for the Xbox 360 and an HDTV. All for one game... Fifa 07. ![]()

I wouldn't put to much thought into the graphics of a game that comes packaged free with a system...it's a free game. All free games tend to suck graphic-wise...Toshinden on the Playstation comes to mind. So does Altered Beast on the Genesis.
![]() At least it's coming with a game in the box. I can't wait to see how Sony releases the PS3. Probably the same way they did with the PS2: (1) console, (1) controller and AV cables. Then they'll say "It has DVD capabilities!"; and charge you for the remote seperately, with nothing to load into the system to use the controller sans the installation disc. And then you'll need something to store your game saves on...oh but wait, let's charge you for a basic memory card and not include it either, even though we've decided to build a system based around a medium that doesn't save to itself. And hell, while we're at it let's make the system capable of supporting party games! Yes that will r0x0rz! "Hey, let's screw them on another system and put only (2) ports on it again and charge them for a multi-port adapter again!" Sony are the Gods of accessorizing. No sense in incorporating any of that stuff when they can charge people $500-600 on a bare bones system...it's not like people ever fell for it before. At least they're going to use Blu Ray. Gotta love teh Blu. ![]() And I completely agree w/ Rags on Nintendo's chosen name. I seriously cannot wrap my noodle around the Wii change from the Revolution! I will always call it the WTF? instead. :bgrin:

If I want amazing graphics and complex games I use the PC. Always have and always will. If I want a game I can play with friends for 10 hours overnight in a party atmosphere... then I use the console. With the exception of halo... the other systems don't offer anything like nintendo. I remember spending hours playing golden eye, various mario karts, other mario sports games... etc. Nintendo has always been about having fun. I mean... cmon... drunken mario party ROCKS!
With nintendo either you love it or you hate it. The xbox and ps have always been pc systems for console kiddies to me. I've had just about every system, and they usually remain untouched unless I have friends over. and it's WiiTF btw. oh and for that silly computer you exaggerated about the graphics... ![]() No... I don't think so.

I agree completely with you NeverDie and even Limbo. LOL, the free game is not something you should judge the console by, the other games look fine. Zelda looks awesome and I can't wait to play it. I even liked watching the videos of ppl playing zelda, they looked amazed. They had a look of joy on their face when they found out that yeah, they could do that and it was awesome. I love Nintendo because their games are unique. They don't release the same game over and over under a different name. They're the anti Rockstar Games. They try to do something different with each installment of a game series. I loved the 64, Mario Kart 64 is one of the best racing games ever. Not because it looks realistic, its fun to play, just a lot of fun. I don't need to show off my big TV and ultra realistic boxing games to make ppl think I'm a man. I just want something fun to play, I'll probably buy animal crossing and all sorts of other quirky games for the Wii. And yeah its a dumb name, dumb as hell, but I don't buy a console cause it sounds cool. I've got a ps2 and an xbox, they're ok but haven't played them in awhile. My 64 and gamecube get broken out regularly though when the gang is here and we wanna play some Super smash bro's melee, mario party, mario tennis, mario kart, etc.. etc..
Oh and who wants to make bets on how long it'll be before microsoft and sony copy the Wii's controller? Nintendo's always made the advancements before other consoles. Don't believe me? Just look up the first controller with a D-pad, Analog controls. Nintendo's ideas don't always pan out, I can think of a lot of funky controllers and a few failed systems in the past. But at least they're out front and trying to make games fun and innovative. BTW if I were a huge sports fan maybe that'd change how I feel but I don't really enjoy sports games so I don't need ultra realism.

I still play my SNES because you know what, the gameplay is top notch. So what if its ugly as sin, its still fun.
You make it sound like the Wii's graphics are prehistoric, they arn't. They just arnt HD. Now I don't know about the US but over here in the UK HDTV's are still very expensive and I don't know a single person that has one at Uni or at home so the HD stuff is wasted on me. I've seen HD in TV shops and yes, its good but it ain't worth the extra cost imo, HDTV subscriptions to Sky for example have horrendous lag. There were plenty of stories around the time of the World Cup where people with HDTV's would hear the cheering from the Pubs, then about 20s later see the goal on their TV. The graphics are good enough for me, gameplay is where its at (over-acting aside): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dy3JFLL3E0I Our house is already looking forward to 4-player wii sports because we know its going to be hilarious. So what if it doesnt have true 5:1, pro logics good enough for most people. Nintendo systems have always been less powered than the competitors and they've always pulled stuff out the bag, Zelda:OoT being a fantastic example of this. It's a cheap fun console for playing with friends, not trying to be the be-all and end all of home entertainment. Anyway, my reasons for getting a Wii (if GAME/HMV get enough)
I just don't see any valid points (for me) to get a PS3. Its horrendously overpriced, blu-ray isn't even proven yet and I hear early rumours of HD-DVD winning due to its easy to remember name and to enjoy it in all its goodness I need a decent sized HDTV and a surround sound system, not to mention a game (out of the 5 available on release, 20 for the Wii...), probably another controller.... Oh dear, thats nearly £2k. Never mind. [/rant] [Edit] Painful reading for Sony fans: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...ne/6157430.stm 94% drop in profit in a quarter, uh oh.

Ginger, you say you are looking forward to 4 player wii sports, you better be ready to buy 3 extra controllers at 60 bucks US bringing the system to over 400$$ US. Not exactly the cheap console everyone is being promised.
I've allready said my peace on the graphics/power issue so I won't be bringing that up again. Tomorrow a new era begins. Whether that is for better or worse is in my opinion still to be determined. :kevil: IG
